After a fun drive we arrived at the village of Stramberk.
A dominant feature of both town and environs are the ruins of the Castle Strallenberg with its cylindrical tower called Trúba. Unique in its architecture is a set of Wallahian timbered cottages from the 18th and 19th century, now most of these are under urban conservation. Another famous feature of the town are the so called „Štramberské uši“ (Štramberk´s ears), a certain type of ginger snack, shaped like ears. In memory of a legendary victory by the Christians of Štramberk over the Mongolian army on May 8, 1241, the day of the Ascension of Christ.

We parked beside the local school, (which had a sign posted to the door advising of an upcoming strike by the teachers).

There were some historic caves at the top of a hill by the school that Adriana wanted to visit, so we took a climb up.

After a good look around, and some scrambling through the caves, we headed back down to the village.
There was a playground by our parking space, and KK took full advantage of it.

After the playground, we starting walking through Stramberk towards the castle, (it was uphill all the way...).

Adriana spotted a small ice cream parlour and went to buy a treat for Krystof.

I was getting worried about the charge in my camera batteries, so Karel got me some spares from a corner shop. (They were pretty expensive - 85 Kc).

After a few blocks, we came to the village square.

Karel and I explored inside the church while Adriana checked out one of the shops and bought some "ears" for KK.

Then it was time to climb up the hill to the castle. Krystof did all the stairs and the ramps on his own. It didn't slow him down one bit.

The Castle:
Hello!
Made it!
View from the top of the hill and Castle courtyard:

Then it was time to climb up the tower. After purchasing passes we entered through the small door at the base.

Again, Krystof climbed all the stairs, even to the very top, above the observation level!

Adriana wasn't too thrilled with this part....I guess safety railings weren't yet invented in medieval times.
Yikes!!!

One more set of stairs to get to the top:

After climbing back down all the stairs, (which was not an easy task for Karel and KK ), we stopped by the pub in the courtyard. Karel and I had a pint, while Adriana and Krystof had some juice. Adriana was hoping the little guy would fall asleep in the stroller as it was now 1 o'clock, but he was just too excited by everything.
After a good rest at the pub, we took another route down to the village that was more stroller friendly.
After a few minutes we made it back to the car and headed out for Ostrava. Stramberk is a very pretty village and was well worth the visit.
